December 2nd thru 5th – Christmas Collection for West Suburban

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

You may recall that the past few years we have donated items to the West Suburban Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The generosity of our members is always amazing! We definitely brighten the holidays for the residents. Since this is a popular endeavor, we will do it again this year. If you are able, we are asking you to donate!

Per Vina (the activity director), they greatly appreciate the Club’s generosity and dedication in making the holiday special for the residents at the home. And they especially love the Holiday Crafts that we make at the November meetings. The Christmas tree centerpieces that we made yesterday will definitely brighten the dining room!

Per Vina, West Suburban has 2 floors. The residents on the downstairs level are mostly younger adults. The residents on the upstairs level are older adults in memory care. Be reminded that both men and women live there.

Memory care residents especially need the following items to keep them occupied/engaged. Color books, crayons, colored pencils, markers, “easy” games, puzzles (100 to 200 large pieces), large print word search, etc. THE DOLLAR STORES HAVE A LOT OF THESE SORTS OF ITEMS.

All residents could use/would love the following:

Fleece lap blankets, socks, maybe gloves or scarfs, calendars, note pads, playing cards, gift bags, etc.

Food wise they always love treats – both sweet and salty! Tins of cookies are great. They also use individually wrapped treats for bingo prizes! Think granola bars, chocolates, hard candy, chips, etc.

As far as personal hygiene items go, Vina is requesting NO BAR SOAPS (for sanitary reasons they cannot share soap). She’s has also suggested no really large shampoos or body washes. Items should be more “personal sized” (lotions, toothpaste, etc). Deodorant, chap stick, shave cream, tissue packets are great. If you have already purchased large size products, feel free to still donate them.

Please bring all donations to Cathy Gall’s house from Monday, December 2 through Thursday, December 5.  Cathy and her husband will deliver them on Friday Dec. 6. Please find Cathy’s address in the club directory and text/call and let her know you are leaving items.
